There is a very good reason why fewer than 15% of American corporations moved from XP to Vista and it was do to the dismal performance and the realization that to move desktops to Windows 7 the company was going to have to buy a new computer as well. Microsoft itself came out and said that Windows 7 was 20% faster than Vista and check the Vista performance figures. There are many published tests on performance of the same computers running XP versus Vista and Vista versus Windows 7 if you check the business information tech publications including Information Week, eWeek, and many many others.

If you are running an application that was constrained by the memory space of XP then going to Windows 7 will help it run faster. On the Win 7 machine, it auto fills the edges and does so quite snappily.

On the XP machine, PSE would not fill in the edges of a panorama (huge file) automatically. The problem here is that Phase One does not explicitly mention 32- or 64-bit Windows support in their release notes. It that is really the case, which I doubt humble speaking, than switching to a 64-bit OS might be a much better option assuming that a) you have the proper hardware (processor/BIOS) to support that and b) CO4/Phase One databacks work tethered in a 64-bit OS.

Did you monitor Task Manager while working with CO4.1 / P45 tethered and did you run out of physical memory?

Problem remains that WinXP (32-bits) is still limited to approx 3.5 GB (it does not use all 4 GB) with or without the switch.īut what did you expect to gain with the switch after all? CO4 is not a memory hog in that you need much RAM for the application pool. It allows more virtual memory to applications (3 instead of 2, in contrast to what they expect) and less to Wlindows (1 instead of 2, what might not be suffiicient to perform all tasks). The /3GB command in boot.ini 'sometimes' works but is putting heavy strain on compatibility.
